P90X – Day 8, Back at it

It’s Saturday and that means it’s time for a new week of P90X. Day 7 (on the workout plan) is either Stretch X or Rest. Katie and I chose rest, but got right back at it today with Chest and Back again.

I think we did a very good job today of pushing ourselves harder than we did last week. Last week, I think we held back a little bit because Tony told us to pace ourselves. Well, today we didn’t pace quite as well, but we definitely pushed ourselves hard to try and beat our reps from last week.

Tomorrow is back to cardio with Plyometrics. And yeah, we’ll be going back to the gym at our apartment to do this one – too much jumping for a 2nd floor apartment.

Oh, we also did our ‘measurements’ today, although we should have done that last week, but oh well. At least we got it done early. I think we’ll see some good results with the measurements.

P90X – Day 5

Okay, okay. I know what you’re thinking already. We skipped a day, right? We have P90X Day 1, Day 2, and Day 3 and now I’m jumping to Day 5!? Well no, we didn’t cheat. Well, not intentionally at least.

Day 4 was yesterday and it was Yoga X. I’m not a huge yoga fan, but have a small sample size. I took one yoga class in college after a weightlifting session and it was a terrible idea/experience. Yoga X was definitely an experience. It was tough and I’m not super flexible. I found some of the poses amazingly hard, but all in all, a very good workout.

The problem came about 45 minutes into the 90 minute program, when our son Brayden started to cry in his crib a little bit. We were going to pause the BluRay player to go check on him, but stupid me, I hit the eject button instead. (Oh yeah, by the way, we don’t have batteries for our BluRay player remote because everything is packed up for our upcoming move to our new house). So being 45 minutes into the workout and me ejecting the DVD left us with no way of getting back to that spot in the DVD, and no way in hell were we going to watch the 45 minutes over again.

So Yoga X ended early. I felt really bad about it, but I’m sure the yoga will come back to bite me later for it.

Today was Legs and Back, and it was a very, very good workout. I actually really enjoyed it, because I could feel the burn throughout the whole workout. A lot of squats and pull ups with some calf raises and lunges thrown in there as well left me breathing very hard and sweating a ton afterwards.

Tomorrow is Day 6 and (I believe) it is Core Synergies, which I’m not sure what that is… so could be a toss up.

Then comes Friday and Day 7. I think I’ll probably want to do the Stretch X “workout” just to keep on a regular schedule, but it’s also our weigh in day. We made a deal that we’re only going to weigh ourselves once a week on Fridays. I’m really hoping to see some improvement from my starting weight, even though it’s only been a week. Even just a few pounds would feel great.

P90X – Day 3

Today was the first day of our P90X training plan where we had to workout on a workday. That meant a 5:00 a.m. wake up call was in order. Granted, I pushed the snooze button twice, so that really became a 5:30 wake up call, it was still a tall order for me (a night person) to wake up and do the workout that early in the morning.

I actually really liked today’s workout. It was Shoulders and Arms, and lacked a lot of the crazy cardio aspect that yesterday’s workout had, but made up for it with lots of reps with a lower weight (going for leanness, not bulk) and some really good exercises. I also really liked the flow of the workout. Three exercises, then repeat, and break. Then three new exercises, then repeat, then break. For five cycles. Easy to follow, and easy to focus.

Unfortunately, due to my snooze button pushing and the fact I had a 9 a.m. sales meeting at work this morning, I did not get to complete Ab Ripper X, but I’ll make that up later this week.

Tomorrow is a 90 minute Yoga X session. Any feedback on how hard that one is?

P90X – Day 2 Sucked

After I wrote yesterday’s blog post that Katie and I were starting P90X, I got several responses on Facebook and Twitter. Most of the responses had to do with the crazy workout that we were about to go though.

Needless to say, we had an idea that it was going to be a tough workout. But I mean really, could it be much more difficult than Chest and Back? There were like 8 different types of pushups and 6 types of pull ups. Oh, how I was wrong.

At the suggestion of my cousin-in-law, we moved our workout today from our 2nd floor apartment to the complex gym and just took Katie’s computer and threw the DVD in and cranked the volume. Lots of jumping, squatting, lunging, twisting, and a whole lot more. And after the first 20 minutes, I was sufficiently dead.

I also had thought that I read in the fitness guide that the Plyometrics session was three sets of 4×2 exercises, but I was wrong. There were four. And then some stupid “sports” exercises at the end.

But it was a crazy intense workout.

Up next tomorrow: Shoulders and Arms + Ab Ripper X. Let’s do it!

P90X – Day 1

Day 1 is here. And completed. Katie and I started P90X this morning and I’m already feeling it.

The first day (for us, at least) was Chest and Back + Ab Ripper X. I’m pretty sure I haven’t done that many pushups since we were working out at LA Boxing.

I’m going to try and step out of my comfort zone and document our P90X workouts and journey on this blog. I have yet to decide whether or not I’ll put my ‘Before’ pictures on here, but I will say that my starting weight for P90X is 283 lbs.

My goal is to be at 250 lbs after the next 90 days are complete. Let’s get it!
